OPTICAL & CONTACT LENSES

Optical And Contact Lenses For All Types Of Eyes

At Eyesight Medical Center, we strive to provide comprehensive eye care for the whole family. Preventative and routine eye exams are essential to maintaining optimal eye health. Vision and eye problems often do not have obvious symptoms or signs but are easily diagnosed by our eye care doctor. By analyzing eye and vision conditions early on, our eye doctor can provide treatment options and, in many cases, repair or prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association suggests yearly or bi-yearly eye exams, depending on risk factors.

Expert Eye Exams and Consultations

During an eye exam, Dr. Nicholas Stathopoulos and his staff will ask you questions about any symptoms you are experiencing, medications you are currently taking, blurry vision, work environment, family history, previous eye problems, and overall health. Dr. Stathopoulos will analyze this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.

Vision Testing

Routine vision testing and evaluations ensure that you always have the clearest vision achievable. The ophthalmic technician measures how each eye is seeing using an eye chart and a reading eye chart. The results of these examinations are portrayed as a fraction, with 20/20 being the model for average distance and reading vision. Depending on the results of your vision test, Dr. Stathopoulos may prescribe restorative glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.

Eye Function Testing

In addition to vision testing, an eye exam at our Tonawanda office includes testing your eyes' functionality. The staff may perform several tests to assess depth perception, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, color vision, and responsiveness to light. Several other simple tests are performed to determine whether the eyes focus, move, and work together correctly. Dr. Stathopoulos uses the test results to diagnose any underlying conditions that may be impairing the eye's ability to focus or work together.

Eye Health

Dr. Stathopoulos evaluates eye health by visually inspecting the eye and eyelids utilizing a microscope for magnification and light. To check the internal structures of the eye, he may dilate the pupils. Increased eye pressure may be a sign of glaucoma, so we use tonometry to measure eye pressure. After completing these tests, Dr. Stathopoulos reviews the results and discusses treatment options with you. Contact us at 716-837-5200 today to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.

Corrective Lenses

Dr. Stathopoulos consults with you to determine whether contact lenses or glasses are best for your lifestyle. If you suffer from dry eye or allergies, glasses may be the most comfortable corrective option. Contact lenses are available in the soft or rigid gas permeable form. Contact lenses require daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly changing depending on the type of lens you select. Specialized contact lenses, such as bifocal contact lenses, are available.  Call our office at 716-837-5200 if you are interested in determining if contact lenses are the best fit for you.

Hard To Fit Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are not a simple solution for every person suffering from vision problems. Some eye conditions make wearing contacts tricky. Patients need to discuss options with our eye care specialists and obtain specialized hard-to-fit contacts for their specific vision problems.  Our contact lens specialist Janet Acara is known in the Buffalo area for her ability to handle these issues so that you can wear contact lenses.

Reasons for Hard to Fit Contacts

Finding contact lenses that fit and wearing contact lenses, in general, can be made more difficult when these conditions affect your eyes:

  • Astigmatism
  • Dry eyes
  • Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC)
  • Keratoconus
  • Presbyopia

Hard to Fit Contacts Solutions

Wearing contacts is still possible even if you suffer from one of the above conditions. Janet Acara can prescribe contact lenses that are tailored to deal with your specific vision condition.

Gas permeable lenses are a solution for patients who suffer from GPC or Keratoconus. A GP lens will narrow protein deposits from accumulating, which will reduce GPC symptoms. It is also beneficial in containing corneal bulging and relieving pressure on the tissue for a Keratoconus sufferer.

Toric lenses are beneficial for correcting astigmatism. Since the lens needs to align with the bulge it is correcting, toric lenses must not rotate to fit the eye. They are custom-made to correct specific astigmatism. For that reason, this type of lens takes longer to make and costs more than a traditional contact lens.

Bifocal and multifocal lenses can help support presbyopia. Monovision lenses are another alternative for presbyopia. This type of lenses can have one fitted for distance and one for close objects.
